Taste Test: Black Imperial Pale Ale ~ Stone Sublimely Self Righteous vs. Southern Tier Iniquity

Posted: June 12, 2012 in Taste Test Results

Well, game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals is playing and I’m stuck at one of the few homes in America that does not have any sort of cable (or even fucking rabbit ears).  We were at The Ruck in Troy (where they have working TVs) and the tap selection was so played that we decided to bottle it up for the evening.

For the evening, I decided to do a side by side of several of my favorite BIPA beers, Stone Sublimely Self Righteous and Southern Tier Iniquity.  Both beers were purchased, opened and sat for 20 minutes to get to optimal temperature with nose and taste.

Stone Sublimely Self Righteous vs. Southern Tier Iniquity

Stone Sublimely Self Righteous (CA)

Smell: Dark Roasted Malts, Floral, Mild Coffee, Mild Chocolate
Taste: Dark Malts, Mild Chocolate, Mild Coffee
Mouthfeel:Great Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Semi Dry, Semi Bitter

Overall Rating: 4.35 Rating

Southern Tier Iniquity (NY)
Appearance: Dark Opaque Hue, Passes No Light, Off White Head, Minimal Lacing
Smell: Dark Malts, Chocolate
Taste: Dark Malts, Chocolate

The ratings say it all…both solid beers but the ratings say it all.
